Ade's First Birthday

For those of you following along, today completes Ade's first year of life. I've had the privilege of tracking her journey on camera (benefits of aunt-ie-ship). :)

Yesterday we got to celebrate this milestone with her at her circus themed birthday party! Below are a few of my favorites...

Happy Birthday Ade!

Train cake compliments of mommy.

Yum!

Wedding Tip or Trick of the Week

The Anatomy of a "Shot List"

Misnomers surround the wedding photography term: "shot list." Martha Stewart is once again the culprit at large.

Except this time, she's not the only one. Characters like "The Knot," "Wedding Bells" or "In Style Weddings" are just as guilty of misguiding so many brides in search of wisdom and guidance. These magazines, and their web counterparts, often offer their readers a piece of advice in the form of a list - a page one can detach - and share with their photographer so that every "great" wedding photograph ever taken can be reproduced at their own wedding.

Sadly, the information - and the manner in which it's provided - is often misleading for brides that have spent the time and money to hire professional photographers. These lists offer a guarantee that unfortunately strips away the creative vision they hired their photographer for, replacing it with manufactured moments.

Now, that being said - for some who've opted for a non-professional, friend or family photographer these lists find their use. They provide guidance for the novice or amature and structure for capturing interesting moments throughout the day.

For those that have gone the professional route the best thing you can do before, or even after, hiring your photographer is to talk about how they will meet your requests for the formal portraits and their process for capturing your day. Questions are a great way to clarifying expectations - so ask away! If you're satisfied with the answer - then leave Martha on the coffee table.

You've made an investment into hiring this person for the skill, creativity and personality you saw in their portfolio (without the list) - now let them maximize their talents for your big day!

Jerod & Karen's E-Session

I had a blast with Jerod and Karen this week! Monday evening we met up near the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach, CA.

We spent our time walking around the fun zone, boardwalk and then down to the beach. These two were not only so great to photograph, but it was a joy to just spend time with them.

Congratulations you two! Can't wait for your wedding. :)

Bryan & Ashley's Wedding

Saturday Bryan and Ashley had a beautiful wedding, thanks in part to Deborah Podesta of Simply Perfect Events.

Their day started at the Marriott Hotel of Fashion Island. Following, their ceremony was held at St. John Vianney Chapel on Balboa Island. Their day concluded at a lovely home of a family friend in Newport Coast.

Bryan and Ashely are so blessed; and I hope you two have a fabulous honeymoon and a blessed marriage.

Where in the world was Christine?

Well, last month I was traveling the Mediterranean.

I believe a photograph is worth a thousand words, so I'll be brief. I had the privilege of traveling through Greece, Cypress, Turkey and Israel. It was so overwhelming to be in these Biblical places, following the path of Paul's first missionary journey. I can't believe I walked where Christ once did. Wow.

Okay, now on to the photographs. Just click the first image to view our full album on PhotoBucket. Otherwise, enjoy a few of my favorites posted below.

Please comment if you have any questions, or comments! :)

Mail from Kenya

I just got the coolest envelope in the mail today! It was air mailed from Kenya, Africa. I'm so in love with the beautiful stamps and the simple brown paper envelope. It reminded me that beauty comes from so many places - not just the expensive or ornate. God's love and beauty can even be seen in a piece of mail.

Check it out!
